| Hospice of Rockingham County's Hospice Home
Hospice of Rockingham County dreamed of building a residential/inpatient facility for Hospice patients in Rockingham County for many years and we are very excited to say this dream is a reality. In November of 2007, we opened a new eight-bed facility for our hospice patients. Our facility offers five beds for residential care as well as three beds for inpatient care. All rooms are private rooms and offer 24-hour nursing care, personal care services, counseling and chaplain support. Our new facility is a unique resource available in Rockingham County. Patients admitted to our facility must have a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of two months or less to live (in the opinion of their physician and HRC's medical director). The patient's main goal is comfort care and not aggressive treatment of their disease. In addition, Hospice Home patients can no longer be adequately cared for at home. In general terms, inpatient beds are for those patients needing pain control and symptom management. The residential beds are for patients most likely in their last six to eight weeks of life who have an inadequate caregiver situation at home. Patients who stabilize and/or improve are provided assistance in making alternative arrangements. These arrangements may include moving to a long-term care facility or returning to their own homes. It is our hope that in most cases we can continue to serve the patient at either a local facility or their private residence.
Hospice Home Highlights Each of our eight patient rooms is comfortably appointed and includes a private bath, oversized armchair with a pull-out bed, television and DVD player, small refrigerator, microwave, & coffee maker. There is a living room/dining room/kitchen available available for the families' comfort and convenience. There is a chapel/meditation room as well as a sun porch and both are always open for anyone seeking a quiet refuge. We also have a large community room available for use by civic or church groups in the area. If you are interested in reserving our community room for a meeting, please call Rhonda Lucas at (336) 427-9026, extension 401.
When we opened our Hospice Home, a new way to remember friends and family was born. Just outside the front doors of the facility, there is now a memory garden made of attractive brick pavers. Donors may have a paver inscribed with up to three lines of text; each line may contain up to 18 letters, characters, or spaces. For additional information on ordering a paver, please see our Donor Opportunities pages. The paver garden is pictured below:
We often have civic clubs and church groups ask for a list of items they may collect and donate to our Hospice Home. Below is a partial list of items used in our Hospice Home.
