Hospice Home Inpatient Facility
“We were very pleased with everything at the Hospice Home. The staff was very caring, patient, kind and cordial. The appearance of Hospice Home was clean, ‘home like’ and made you feel like you were special as well as the patient. I have recommended Hospice Home to many of my friends. It’s a place I would like to spend my final days.” –Kathryn Rodgers
Our Hospice Home opened in November of 2007. This state-of-the-art facility offers five beds for inpatient care as well as three beds for residential care. The eight private rooms offer 24-hour nursing care, personal care services, counseling and chaplain support. Our facility is a unique resource available in Rockingham County. Patients admitted to our facility must have a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of two months or less to live (in the opinion of their physician and HRC’s medical director). The patient’s main goal is comfort care and not aggressive treatment of their disease. In addition, Hospice Home patients can no longer be adequately cared for at home.
In general terms, inpatient beds are for those patients needing pain control and symptom management. The residential beds are for patients most likely in their last six to eight weeks of life who have an inadequate caregiver situation at home. Patients who stabilize and/or improve are provided assistance in making alternative arrangements. These arrangements may include moving to a long-term care facility or returning to their own homes. It is our hope that in most cases we can continue to serve the patient at either a local facility or their private residence.
