Volunteer Training

All ANCORA volunteers are required to complete 12 hours of training classes but gone are the days of waiting for the next round of classes to convene before you can join. Classes are now offered online and can be completed at a potential volunteer’s individual pace.

Once the online training begins, we are updated as to individuals’ progress and will contact potential volunteers once all modules are completed. We will schedule a one-on-one session where we will collect necessary paperwork, including forms and information for a mandatory background check, and hold discussions as to what areas of service interest the new volunteer.

For anyone interested in becoming a volunteer who does not have access to a computer or anyone that considers themselves to be “technologically challenged,” contact the Hospice office for different options.

Volunteer training module topics include:

  • Hospice History, Philosophy, Services & Goals
  • Dying, Death, Grief & Bereavement: Patient/Family Coping Mechanisms, Psychological Issues & the Time of Death
  • Family Systems, Dynamics & Rights
  • Communication & Active Listening
  • Additional Insights & Skill Demonstrations
  • Boundaries, HIPAA, Documentation, Self-care & Summary

Classes are offered free of charge and there is no obligation to become a volunteer after training. If someone decides that Hospice volunteering just is not for them, we certainly understand and respect that.
